What I offer you - my way of working and specialisms
Deciding who to see for counselling or psychotherapy can be difficult as there are so many different options. You are welcome to ask me about how I work and also check my professional status on the BACP website. No good therapist should have a problem with being asked these questions - it is really important you feel comfortable with who you choose and that the therapist and client are a good fit.
I offer a free 15 minute call or meeting so that we can decide whether or not we would be a good fit and if I feel you would be better suited to someone who works differently we can discuss that.
I have gained my counselling and psychotherapy practice experience through community and third sector mental health services and in private practice. My training and CPD
I specialise in the effect of our relationships in childhood and adulthood on our sense of self and our lives more broadly. In my experience this is often what lies underneath depression and anxiety and some of the other common mental health presentations. I also have experience working with people in recovery from addictions, codependency and also with neurodiversity.
I am particularly interested in the way that we adapt to survive a lack of relational attunement or relational trauma and how to recover from it to live life more fully and with choice.
I have a separate career alongside this - firstly in environmental protection and water management and then in children's policy and environmental policy. I have an appreciation of the world outside the therapy room and the pressures of the workplace.
The people who come to see me for counselling and psychotherapy are a diverse set of people. All unique individuals, each with their own experiences, challenges, strengths and goals for emotional, social, mental, and physical well-being. I tailor my approach to reflect that. I see us as forming a partnership, progressing at a depth, rhythm and pace that is right for you.
I work with a deliberately moderate caseload to ensure I have the capacity to keep myself well and provide care for each client individually.
I offer short and long-term talking therapy, body-awareness (somatic) therapy, psycho-education and also brief psychological interventions.
Depending on your needs we can work in a more - or less - structured or directive way within sessions.
Whether your goal is to address specific things in time limited counselling or you are needing deep healing and growth in long term therapy you are welcome here!

My room set up allows for you to sit or recline on a chair, sofa, cushion or mat — whatever is comfortable for you. I can also adjust the lighting and provide blankets and cushions.
